Is Echinacea Effective?
A recent study have shown that echinacea has no effect in preventing or reducing the symptoms of the common cold - even when taken at the onset. However, this is just one study against the hundreds of studies that show an improvement in immunity after taking the supplement.
However, it is still the best known and researched herb for stimulating the immune system. It is also thought to stimulate new tissue growth for healing of wounds and to reduce inflammation in arthritis
It is commonly used to treat:-
- coughs, colds and sore throats
- minor infections
- skin infections
- skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis
Echinacea is best used as a short term boost to your immunity and will be less effective if used regularly over a long period.
As with all natural supplements, check with your doctor before taking them.
